Semester GPA calculator

Scope one term: the classes on this semester’s schedule. Credit-weight the letters, read the term GPA, then add prior terms on the cumulative page if you need a running total.

Credit-weighted on a common 4.0 ± map.

GPA

Enter numbers and calculate.

When to use — and when not to

When to use

Term just ended; Dean’s list ballpark; “if I pull a B in chem.”

When not to

Full cumulative history — cumulative GPA. Course percent inside one class — course grade tools.

Assumptions

One term’s courses. Standard 4.0 ± map. Credits required for a real college term GPA.

How it works

term GPA = Σ(gp × credits) / Σ(credits)
  1. List this semester’s courses only.
  2. Enter letter + credits.
  3. Read term GPA.

Examples

4 cr A, 3 cr B, 3 cr B−, 1 cr A

≈ 3.34

replace B− with C

term GPA falls — credits still count

Gotchas

  • Pass/fail courses may be excluded by policy — omit them if your school does.
  • Repeated courses: follow school forgive rules manually.
  • Semester grade (percents) ≠ semester GPA.

Compare

Running total? Cumulative GPA. Equal course weights? Unweighted GPA.
