When to use — and when not to

When to use

Translating 87% into B+ vs B; building a target percent for the final tools; comparing two syllabus scales.

When not to

You need needed-on-final math — final grade calculator. GPA points — GPA pages.

Assumptions

Editable scale. School policies (round-up, mastery) not modeled.

How it works

letter = first band where low ≤ percent ≤ high
  1. Pick ± or simple scale.
  2. Enter a percent.
  3. Read letter and band.

Examples

89% on ± scale

B+ (87–89) — confirm if your school rounds 89.5 up to A−

89% on simple scale

B (80–89)

Gotchas

  • Nursing / major courses may require a C or higher that is not 70.
  • Some professors publish weird bands (A starts at 94).
  • Letter ≠ GPA points until you map them on a GPA page.
