Final exam grade calculator
Same math family as the main final grade tool, with copy and defaults aimed at “final exam” wording (college and HS). Includes a clear pair of modes: score needed on the exam, and projected course grade if you already sat it (or want a what-if).
NEEDED ON FINAL
——
Enter numbers and calculate.
Estimated course grade: 23.0%
When to use — and when not to
When to use
The syllabus literally says “Final Exam 25%”; you are past the exam and want the course outcome; you searched “final exam grade calculator” not “final grade calculator.”
When not to
Quarters + semester exam → semester grade calculator. Category soup → weighted grade calculator.
Assumptions
Identical core formula to the final grade page. Default weight demo 25% (user-editable). Project mode uses overall = current×(1−w) + exam×w.
How it works
needed: exam = (target − current × (1 − w)) / w project: overall = current×(1−w) + exam×w
- Enter current grade before the exam.
- Enter exam weight (default demo 25%).
- Choose needed mode or project mode.
- Read required exam score or projected course %.
Examples
current 81, exam weight 25%, target 85
needed ≈ 97%
current 81, exam scored 90, weight 25%
overall ≈ 83.3%
Gotchas
- Cumulative finals do not change the weight math — they change how you study, not the formula.
- Multi-part finals (two days): average the parts or use remaining-parts logic later; batch 1 uses one exam score.
- Take-home finals still use the same weight.
- Do not enter current that already includes the exam.
