Exam grade calculator
Same reverse formula as the final tools, labeled for “exam” searches. Enter current course % (before this exam), how much the exam counts, and the target. Use it for a midterm or a final — the math does not care about the name on the calendar.
NEEDED ON FINAL

Enter numbers and calculate.
Estimated course grade: 23.0%
When to use — and when not to
When to use
Big exam next week with a published weight; checking if a B is still possible; comparing a 20% quiz exam vs a 40% unit exam.
When not to
You need quarter + semester exam presets — semester grade calculator. Category rebuild first — weighted grade calculator.
Assumptions
Current excludes this exam. Weight is percent of the whole course. Extra credit not modeled unless you raise the ceiling.
How it works
needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) / w
- Enter current % without the exam.
- Enter exam weight %.
- Enter target course %.
- Read needed exam score and reachability.
Examples
current 82, exam 20%, target 85
needed ≈ 97%
current 90, exam 40%, target 88
needed ≈ 85%
Heavier exams forgive a soft current a bit if you can still score well.
Gotchas
- If “exams” is a bucket and this is one test inside it, the weight is not the whole bucket — estimate the share of that bucket.
- Canvas current with blank zeros will lie.
- Letter targets need your real cutoffs.
